Dark Souls - Siegmeyer of Catarina by IgorWolski Dark Souls - Siegmeyer of Catarina by IgorWolski
Man I love this game. It's the prettiest thing. If I only could share some humanity with the good old onion knight.

Nice perspective, and unusual soft shadows and colors gives fresh feel compared to other people's Dark Souls arts (which has more dark feel to them). Heartwarming idea for character to give some humanity to sympathetic Siegmeyer. Really nice work!

For some reason the leaves spotting the ground and general colors almost makes it look like they're in a soup- onion soup ofc :D

No, really though, love the colors, though I'm sure you get that a lot already. The game really does have these wonderful places where you can almost feel a sense of peace with how, despite the fact that shit's all run down there's all this wonderful foliage seeping in through the cracks- and then all it takes is the smallest patch of sunlight, n it makes it all look quite comfy. Which you captured marvelously well I mean

Haha, all for onion bro soup :D Yeah, the weird serenity in this game is really suprising at first, the whole thing is full of death and action but when you think back it seems all pretty calm and peaceful.

I just really like how subtly they pulled it off, not making it immediately apparent and letting you figure it out yourself

nothing pisses me off more than something throwing some godawful narration or melodramatic camera pans over it all to hammer you over the head with it

it really is, they both go hand in hand in a way that so few pieces of... well, a lot of video games specifically bother to delve into lol

being in that weird setting where civilization's completely collapsed and there's an incredible amount of just plain nature, ugly and beautiful, awe-inspiring and terrifying, all creeping back into the ruins

...at least in most areas I guess

it's just sometimes hard to look past the ugly/terrifying stuff when you're constantly on the edge of your seat waiting for death I guess, it's a really wonderful feeling when you take a look around and just sink in the quiet expanse of it all

"Ligne claire" it's what Hergé (the author of Tintin) called his style.

Hmm, I don't think so. The closest that comes to mind is cel shaded cartoon illustration, but the style itself is pretty much just mu own thing.

Heh, I can see Solaire and Sigmeyer as best buds. But there's actually an in-engine animated series about them all being friends and having wacky adventures on youtube (by ThePruld)

I inally finished Dark souls 80 hours XD
But Siegmeyer will have have a special place on my heart, of all th characters in the game you can safely say that he is the only one who never tried to use your for his or her own benefit. Annor londor is the proof of that and Sen fortress.
Is hard to describe but he is like all of us when we don't know how to overcome a wall and sometimes we just wait. Perhaps some of us think he is a coward but he is brave.
Onion bro is Onion bro.

Haha, exactly. He's so uplifting and comforting on this dangerous journey, it's hard not to instantly be happy to see him. How can a game make me like a character that much with only a few lines of dialogue :D

I love the dark souls series as well and I really enjoy your rendition of the game. Your use of bright colors and clear lines are refreshing for a game that is known for its grim and dark tone.
I have a question though if you don't mind my asking: What is your process for a piece such as this? As someone that wants to be an illustrator I'm a very curious about the processes/approaches/advice of artists.

Thanks, I'm glad you like my take :) As for the process, for fanarts it always starts for me with a need to turn that feeling you get after finishing something good to a drawing (for my own original pieces it's a little more complicated). Sometimes the idea just comes clearly right away (as was with this piece) or I have to think what part of the game/movie/whatever really got to me (the Solaire piece was like that) and add some personal feelings to it. When I have a vague idea of what I want, I start roughly sketching, where the idea can be again changed multiple times. With a finished sketch, I just need to ink (I usually improvise most of the details while inking) and color the thing and it's finished :)

I've watched some Game Grumps Bloodborne episodes, the desing works look really boss, but at the same time vampiresque, burtony feel isn't really what I like.

But yeah, I'd still want to play it :D

Freaking awesome. It looks like a delightful graphic novel instead of something dark and gritty like you'd expect.
